Celebrating with family and friends is what makes Thanksgiving a special holiday. Traditions, both old and new are born from the time spent together with loved ones.
A story passed down from the time of Pilgrims is that of the 5 Kernels of Corn. During one of the darkest winters for the Pilgrims, each received a daily ration of just five kernels of corn. Fortunately, not one Pilgrim died of starvation that winter, but they didn’t forget the hardships experienced that cruel winter. The bountiful harvest of 1623 provided an abundance of food that allowed the Pilgrims to invite the neighbors that had helped them survive through many adversities. But despite the wonderful amount of food, the first course of the meal was an empty plate and each person was given just five kernel of corn.
Remembering what we are thankful and grateful for is a wonderful part of the Thanksgiving tradition. From everyone at Kramer Tree Specialists, we hope you enjoy the time spent celebrating this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
