New spring growth is beginning all around us, including on area Evergreen trees and shrubs. Pine trees, in particular, are producing new “candles”. Candles are the young needles of a Pine tree, which are most susceptible to Diplodia tip blight and Dothistroma needle cast fungus attacks. These serious fungus diseases cause brown needle tips, droopy candles and resinous cankers on stems and branches. The Zimmerman Pine Moth is a pest that also targets Pine trees. The life cycle of the Zimmerman Pine Moth makes it imperative that the insecticide is applied during its vulnerable stages, which occur in early spring and late summer. Understanding the optimal treatment times is critical before beginning control methods.
Kramer Tree Specialists offers a series of fungicide and insecticide sprays that target these serious Pine tree pests. KTS provides a series of four sprays that are timed to begin when Pine trees have started producing new candles, half candle elongation, full candle elongation and in late summer when the Zimmerman Pine Moth are active outside the tree and haven’t begun boring into the Pines.
The PHC Department anticipates Zimmerman Pine Moth and Fungus treatments on Pine trees to begin in the next one to two weeks, weather conditions pending. Rest assured, if you have already scheduled these treatments with us, we will start as soon as possible. But if you haven’t scheduled a Pine tree treatment yet, it’s not too late to get on the schedule. Call the PHC Department at KTS today!
