Unique patterns, antique beauty and durable, long-lasting quality are just a few characteristics found in reclaimed wood products. There is a distinctive story behind each furniture piece or floorboard. This is a trend that is gathering steam and popularity as consumers want to recycle what already exists. Another trend becoming popular is using Ash trees and other tree species that have been devastated by pests and giving them the opportunity to become useful in other ways. While the diseased tree no longer has a use in the landscape as a growing part of the scenery, it can return as a park bench or another viable part of the environment.
Illinois is home to many sources for reclaimed lumber and products. There is a process for properly re-using or reclaiming wood and producing products for consumers. It starts with the arborist that removes the trees, which then delivers the trees for milling, woodworking and eventually the end user. Another process involves reclaiming wood from old structures for re-purpose in other ways. The uses are endless and each product offers unique qualities not found in mass-produced merchandise.

This is some great information, and I really like your point that each floorboard made of reclaimed wood has its own story. My husband and I are going to be renovating our dining room, and I’d like to give the room some uniqueness and personality. I would love to have a floor with many different stories contained within, so I’ll definitely look into reclaimed wood. Thanks for the great post!
