I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like the fall season in some way. Temperatures are cooling, pesky insects are slowly going away, and of course trees are showing their wonderful fall color To follow this epic season is winter; a wonderful time of snow, sleet, bitter cold, wind and less daylight. With all that wonderful weather, a common misconception is that once a tree is dormant, that’s it, nothing can be done until spring. Well, I have good news for you; winter is an excellent time for conducting tree work, and for some tree varieties, it is the only recommended season for pruning. For example, oak trees are best pruned during their dormant period to lessen the chances for serious disease transmissions, such as Oak Wilt. American Elm trees also fall into this category to reduce the risk of spread of Dutch Elm Disease.
Experienced arborists and tree climbers are able to identify branches that should be removed, even when the leaves have dropped. The tree offers clues and indicators that make it apparent to a trained eye which branches should be pruned.
Professional tree care companies offer dormant season services, which include pruning, tree removal, stump grinding and cable brace installation. Kramer Tree Specialists offers these services at a discounted rate–a 15% savings! Our dormant season discount period begins December 1st of each year.
