EHAP Workshop

In April, Kramer Tree Specialists hosted the 1st TCIA sponsored Electrical Hazards Awareness Program [EHAP] workshop in the greater Chicago area. Our own employee, Tim Ayers, recently became certified by TCIA as one of two Chicago area EHAP instructors. Tim is responsible for the Safety & Human Performance program at KTS. Tim’s experience of working in the electrical transmission-distribution field for 27 years was a terrific base for achieving an EHAP trainer certification. Aside from the basics taught at the workshop, Tim was able to relate many personal experiences, as well as providing a show-n-tell of electrical artifacts he has collected over the years. These experiences and visuals helped make the urgency of understanding electrical hazards resonate with students.

The EHAP workshop was very well attended. Thirty individuals from all over Chicagoland and from as far away as Wisconsin attended this full day class. Students that attended included municipal workers and private tree-care employees. When it comes to working around electricity, people at all levels of a company can benefit from greater awareness of the potential hazards. Now that Tim has facilitated his first class, he is ready to schedule more. The cost is fairly inexpensive and CEU’s are available. In addition, EHAP helps an attendee maintain important industry certifications.
